I missed the stream of the final this morning… As the Regulator said to me, “You snooze, you lose”. And lose I did… In what was apparently a ’see-sawing’ final, Damien Hobgood ousted Mick Fanning to take the trophy. Another nice result for Mick, (IMHO) Australia’s best chance for a World Title in quite a while, putting him 430 points ahead of Taj in the Foster World Tour standings. Another Mercedes for Hobgood? Who knows… Since I missed the final, here’s the official word from the competition site:
After a slow start, the two went tit-for-tat with the lead seesawing back and forth as sets poured in. Paddle battles, broken boards, incredible tubes – the final had it all and Damo is a deserving champion.
Keep an eye on the Billabong Pro videos page, hopefully the replay of the final will be coming soon…
