Dear mum…

There’s two things I hate about flicking the ‘on’ switch for a new site:

* The morbid fear that when you go to the live site everything will be broken.
* Having to flick the switch outside of normal working hours.

Tonight I had to migrate a completed “Jahia”:http://www.jahia.com site from one server to the other. I was using an older version of Jahia that has a notoriously flaky extract/deploy process so confidence was not high. But despite my fears, the deployment was successful, so with emergency beer and pizza close at hand I bumped the server. Hit the front page of the site … everything looks ok … check pages … login / logout etc … the emergency beer and pizza transforms into a celebratory feast!

“The site”:http://www.aictec.edu.au is one of the many sites managed by my employer and while I normally wouldn’t bother mentioning a launch, it is kind of nice to release a site that “validates”:http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A//www.aictec.edu.au/aictec/go/pid/1, also I think “my mum”:http://tillinger.blogspot.com likes to know what I’m up to!
